Exciting news! I'll be part of Makerlabs Tools for Women Residency this spring! 🛠️👩💪💛
MakerLabs is a makerspace in Vancouver that provides you with the tools, space, and skills to make almost anything. The Tools for Women Residency is a Makerlabs membership with some exciting extras, including dedicated studio space, training, guidance from their fabrication team, and a place to share your work. One month of the residency is dedicated to learning and using the tools, and the second month you become a mentor to the next round of resident makers.
As someone who is so interested process, having the opportunity to dig into materials and tools that I have had limited experience with is going to be such a treat. And, as you can see from the image above, I've already started to dive into new materials. These lasercut wood pieces were fabricated for me by Makerlabs. They will form the base of wall sculptures for my upcoming show at Kafka's, Suspended in a Sunbeam. Soon, I'll be making my own! (Woodshop? Yeah! CNC? That's right! Metal shop? You know it! Welding! What? Yes!)
You should make something, too! You can become a member to use the facilites to create your own work, or you could instead have Makerlabs do the fabrication of your designs for you. Check out makerlabs.com for more on that and the residency, too.
A HUGE THANK YOU to Hanna Benihoud, Makerlabs Community Manager, for creating and organizing this opportunity!
